On Nirvana

Κάποτε στη διάρκεια μιας συνέλευσης, ένας δάσκαλος ονόματι Γιον Μεν είπε στους συγκεντρωμένους:

''Οι οπαδοί της διδασκαλίας του Βούδα είναι αναρίθμητοι σαν τους κόκκους άμμου του ποταμού Γάγγη.

Ποιός από σας μπορεί να πει με μια μονοσύλλαβη λέξη που βρίσκεται η Βουδότητα;"

Κανένας δεν μπορούσε να βρει μια απάντηση. Εκείνη τη στιγμή ο δάσκαλος απάντησε ο ίδιος: "Είναι παντού''.

A Tantric vision

The topic that we have chosen as the subject of our study is not without some difficulties and peculiar problems. This is so because Tibetan Tantric tradition which we have under-taken to study falls within the realm of what may be termed esoteric Buddhism.

As it is well known, the masters and practitioners of esoteric traditions are required not to reveal the secrets of that tradition except under certain specially prescribed circumstances.

The practitioners of the Buddhist Tantric Tradition are justified in their reticence, for, a careless disclosure of its secrets could weaken the tradition and expose it to

misunderstanding and criticism. Moreover, they are genuinely concerned about psychological dangers which they believe would result for careless and untutored appro-priation of Tantric knowledge.

Shiva

Ο Σίβα είναι ο θεός του Έρωτα και του Θανάτου, του οποίου η παράξενη, βάναυση και έντονα ερωτική λατρεία συνδέεται με το πιο ιδεαλιστικό και αφηρημένο σύστημα της ινδικής φιλοσοφίας. Σίβα, ο χορευτής θεός, γύρω από τον οποίο χορεύει ολόκληρο το σύμπαν σαν λαμπερή αντανάκλαση του. Σίβα, "ο μεγάλος χρόνος" που διαρκώς ανανεώνει όλα εκείνα που έχει καταστρέψει. Με αυτή την έννοια παριστάνεται ως ένας μαύρος φαλλός που υπάρχει στον αιθέρα και λατρεύεται ως πηγή της ζωής και θεός της ηδονής. Είναι επίσης ο Σίβα, ο θεός του ασκητισμού και των ασκητών, όντας ο μέγας ασκητής ο ίδιος, ''ενδεδυμένος τον αέρα''.
