Περί μακροβουτών στην αιτιότητα

Μετά τη λύση των κοάν ''Ένας δίχως γένια ξένος" και "Ο κιοτζέν στο δέντρο σκαρφαλώνει'', [από την ''ΑΠΥΛΩΤΗ ΠΥΛΗ'' (無門慧開) του Μουμόν Εκάι] και από όλα τα υπόλοιπα κοάν (μέχρι το 10, και σε συσχετισμό με τα κοάν 46, 47 και 48), αντιλαμβάνομαι πως στον Ζεν Βουδισμό, ΔΕΝ υπάρχει ΑΙΤΙΟΤΗΤΑ. 

Does causality exist?

As to the poet-official Po Chu-i

In 815 the Chinese poet-official Po Chu-i, having offended the authorities by his outspoken criticisms of government policy, was dismissed from his position at court and shunted off to an insignificant post in the Yangtze region far in the south, a virtual sentence of exile.

Not long after arriving at his new post, he wrote the following poem entitled

''Reading Chuang-Tzu'':

Leaving homeland, parted from kin, banished in a strange place,

I wonder my heart feels so little anguish and pain.

Consulting Chuang Tzu, I find where I belong:

surely my home is there in Not-Even-Anything land.

The unknown painter of China, Kakuan, and the passing of time

  He is sitting at the foot of the river, playing the flute and the bull is grazing. How wonderful! This is the "Animal Unfettered" in D.T Suzuki's 'Zen Short Stories' and the picture is of an unknown Chinese master. It is number 6 of the Ten Bulls. 

 Now, check picture number 7, or, the Bull Transcended, of Japanese master Kakuan: No bull and no flute but the suggestion is there. Am I dreaming? I don't believe so.

Road of Kembo

Koan 48, is a difficult one to solve from lower levels of accomplishment, albeit not an impossible task;

I solved this koan in a... Taming, from Ummon's side. Normally, it is completely, an 'enso' (Both Bull and Self Transcended) business, like a busy bee.

First of all, it asks if you know what a Buddhist is, which I am, and then  it asks if you are familiar with Nirvana, which I claim I do by now.

Third, the sea, the sun and, of course, the big fish.

P.S.   48. ONE ROAD OF KEMBO

A Zen pupil asked Kembo: ''All Buddhas of the ten parts of the universe enter the one road of Nirvana. Where does that road begin?''

Kembo, raising his walking stick and drawing the figure one in the air, said ''Here it is.''

This pupil went to Ummon and asked the same question. 

Ummon, who happened to have a fan in his hand said: " This fan will reach to the thirty-third heaven and hit the nose of the presiding deity there.

It is like the Dragon Carp of the Eastern Sea tipping over the rain-cloud with his tail."

ΕΙΣΑΓΩΓΗ ΣΤΙΣ ΠΟΛΕΜΙΚΕΣ ΤΕΧΝΕΣ

''Κάποτε στην Ιαπωνία, ο μεγάλος σαμουράι Γιαγκιού Μουνενάρι, παρακάλεσε το φίλο του και πνευνατικό του δάσκαλο, ιερέα του Ζεν, Τακουάν να του γράψει μια ειασαγωγή στις πολεμικές τέχνες.

Ο Τακουάν του απάντησε με ένα γράμμα.

Αυτό το γράμμα θεωρήθηκε κλασσικό κείμενο και είναι γνωστό στην Ιαπωνία με τον τίτλο: 'Fudochi Shinmyo Roku', το οποίο στα ελληνικά αποδίδεται ως: 'Καταγραφή της θαυμαστής σοφίας του ακλόνητου νου'.

Η ιδιαίτερη αξία του οφείλεται στο ότι φωτίζει μια πτυχή των Πολεμικών Τεχνών, η οποία ήταν κρυμμένη ως τότε: Το γεγονός ότι, για να προχωρήσει κάποιος στη γνώση τους, χρειάζεται απαραιτήτως να αναπτύξει και το πνεύμα του."

Zen O'clock

When you look forward into TIME,

ΟΙ ΑΔΥΝΑΜΙΕΣ ΕΝΟΣ ΕΥΓΕΝΙΚΟΥ ΑΝΘΡΩΠΟΥ

Ο Wei Zheng σχολίασε καθώς σύγκρινε τις αδυναμίες ενός ευγενικού ανθρώπου με τα δυνατά σημεία ενός αχρείου:

"Ακόμη και ο αχρείος έχει μικρές αρετές όπως και ο ενάρετος έχει τα μικρά του ελαττώματα. Οι μικρές αδυναμίες ενός ευγενούς ανθρώπου είναι σαν τα ψεγάδια σε ένα κομμάτι νεφρίτη. Ένας καλός έμπορος δεν θα το πετάξει, γιατί τα μικρά ψεγάδια δεν επηρεάζουν τη συνολική ομορφιά. Οι μικρές αρετές του κακού είναι σαν τη λεπίδα ενός στομωμένου μαχαιριού. Κόβει αλλά δεν κόβει καλά. Έναν καλό τεχνίτη δεν το ενδιαφέρει γιατί ουσιαστικά είναι ελαττωματικό.''

ON THE ORIGIN OF SPECIES

''When on board H.M.S  'Beagle', as naturalist, I was much struck with certain facts in the distribution of the inhabitants of South America, and in the geological relations of the present to the past inhabitants of that continent.
