ABOUT A MEANS AS AN END

What is causality? On one hand you cannot tie your shoelaces and on the other you can change the heavens. Are we all, as society, responsible then? The answer is an emphatical "No".

One might need more than one person to help them tie their shoelaces, yet when the other factor comes in, what we might call the "transpersonal" (the other person being many as it could be one) and of the relationship between Master/disciple, Guru/student, the action is imperative. Can you help your master in a Cosmic dimension?

Yes, you can.

On a previous message ("Τo Δίδαγμα", October 24, 2016 - Is it a 5 from 9?) we implied such a thing. This site does not ask you to believe it's validity, nevertheless an explanation is needed. 

A 5 is an advanced student a 9 is Nirvana and a 10 number does not exist (check your pictures!). A 10 number exists ONLY when are still searching in the dark for your shoes or you are taking your first steps outdoors (1 to 2).

A master changes the students consciousness and the student reciprocates as it is needed. But I come back from eternity to guide my student isn't the Rinzai way and I doubt if it is the Soto either.

We cause, we cannot help it and believing is plenty.

The Five Varieties of Zen

 The first of these types we call Bompu or "'ordinary"' Zen.

Bompu Zen, being free from any philosophic or religious content, is for anybody and everybody. It is a Zen practiced purely in the belief that it can improve both physical and mental health. Through the practice of Bompu Zen you learn to concentrate and control your mind.

 The second of the five kinds of Zen is called Gedo. Gedo means literally "an outside way" and so implies, from the Buddhist point of view, teachings other than Buddhist. Here we have a Zen related to religion and philosophy but not yet a Buddhist Zen. Hindu yoga, the quietist sitting of Confuciucianism, contemplation practices in Christianity, all these belong to the category of Gedo Zen.

 The third type of Zen is Shojo, literaly meaning "small vehicle". This is the vehicle or teaching that is to take you from one state of mind [delusion] to another [enlightenment]. This small vehicle is so named because it is designed to accommodate only one's self.

 The fourth classification is called Daijo, great vehicle Zen, and this is truly Buddhist Zen, for it has as its central purpose kensho-godo, that is, seeing into your essential nature and realizing the Way in your daily life. Zen Buddhism is essentially a religion of enlightenment. So it can be said that a Zen which ignores or denies or belittles enlightenment is not true Daijo Buddhist Zen.

 Saijojo Zen, the last of the five types, is the highest vehicle, the culmination and crown of Buddhist Zen. This Zen was practiced by all the Buddhas of the past-namely, Shakyamuni and Amida-and is the expression of Absolute Life, life in its purest form. It involves no struggle for satori or any other object, we call it shikan-taza.

KOAN #47.  THREE GATES OF TOSOTSU

       Tosotsu built three barriers and made the monks pass through them. The first barrier is studying Zen. In studying Zen the aim is to see one's own true nature. Now where is your true nature?

       Secondly, when one realizes his own true nature he will be free from birth and death. Now when you shut the light from your eyes and become a corpse, how can you free yourself ?

        Thirdly, if you free yourself from birth and death, you should know where you are. Now the body separates into the four elements. Where are you?

Mumon's comment: Whoever can pass these three barriers will be a master wherever he stands. Whatever happens about him he will turn into Zen. Otherwise he will be living on poor food and not even enough to satisfy himself.

                            

                            An instant realization sees endless time.

                            Endless time is as one moment.
