...There was a seminar in Αscona and Jolande Jacobi introduced me to Jung. By that time I had many voices that I wanted him to hear about, I wanted to know what Personifications of the Unconscious are and he said "Are you the man who does Automatic writing? Come up and see me!"
Monday’s moon, though Dimitri says it is Friday 4th of September at 3:31 in Athens and 11:31 in Bombay. The day must come: Villiers, Duke of Buckingham.
These are the figures I see in the first place. They are part of you. But we don't have that kind of intimacy with them anymore, we think of them as antique figures. Now they stop being figures on so many statues when you learn that they are part of you. We don't have just one.I say are they fifty seven? Yes.
...this is one of the most painful factors which we have by way of maturation, what we call an Introjection of the deities that they are all me and I am not a separate person dependent upon what they do or don't do.
We talk about the conscious mind, the subconscious and into that the collective unconscious and within the collective unconscious we have ten thousand different deities from every culture in the world. We used to call them gods and godesses and angels and archangels, now we call them archetypes and then we wait to see how the archetypes manifest themselves through us in certain personifications, because in modern twenteith century study of the psyche we are learning how it is possible that these deities are not separate from me but that they represent a level of myself.
Every country has its negative if not demonic side; I saw a movie last night "Triumph of the Spirit" about a man when the Nazis took over Greece and took him and his whole family to Poland. It's a grim movie. But it's awfully hard to sit through it and say this isn't a make-believe story, this all really did happen. Well, the higher consciousness in a sense is a layer above the earth but as it manifests itself it will be different because I can say the same thing about the dark side of the Germans and I say ok but what was its greatness, what has it also left? But I get the same feeling that you are finding the fruits of it, what is the greatness, just because the Acropolis is nothing now, can I tune into what it was at the time?
Because it's a little hard in this nothingness, this tathata, this suchness, but even nothingness like everything else, like all the archetypes, they all have a positive and a negative side to them. If I am experiencing the unfamiliar how can nothingness be both positive and negative? Probably what we are talking about is the way in which we respond to nothingness, the negative component, the I didn't get what I wanted therefore... I look at it and I say, hey, that;s great, part says, I read ten books the next stage is the confrontation with it that I can't keep saying "Oh god while I have you on the line when do I come into the great enlightenment" What is your best Zen line ? Before enlightenment I chopped wood and carry water, after enlightnment I chop wood and carry water.
